DANGER AND DESTRUCTION ON THE OREGON TRAIL
by Justin Rankin
There are a lot of dangers on the Oregon Trail and my Pa was there. There was accidents, attacks, and a lot of obstacles. If you don't believe me just ask my Pa and Ma.
My Pa and his friends ran into a lot of accidents. First, the cattle can be easily spooked and can trample people like my Pa. He ended up having a broken arm. Also people can end up killing themselves by accidentally pulling the trigger of their rifles while loading. Like that time my Pa told me he lost a friend when he was loading his gun . I'm glad my Pa didn't die or else I wouldn't be born and my parents wouldn't get married.
My Pa said the obstacles were even worse than accidents, It made travel really tough. First, my uncle told me stories that if your wagons weren't tough enough the wheels could be damaged from bumpy trails. Also, the rivers and streams could pull you down stream, like what happened to my pa, but someone at a fort nearby was giving away a free wagon.
There were very few stories about attacks that my pa told me about but there were some. My pa got a scar from a bear attack, but he shot it after the attack and had it for dinner. There were barely any Indian attacks. My Pa and his friends were attacked by Indians but convinced them that they won't hurt their land and take good care of it through a Indian who could translate three different languages.
In conclusion, there were a lot of dangers on the trail. This time they should have more forts and camp areas. I don't want to go on the trail after what I heard.
