Angel's Daughter

Isn't she a cutie? This a picture invitation that I receive from my long time friend Marife Tuazon (aka angel rose) . I known Angel for almost 7 years now. I meet her at yahoo chat a while back. Like Dabawenya Babe .I have know them for quite a while now. But we haven't seen each other in person. That sad isn't it :((. But eventually will see each other.

Anyway. This angel's daughter's christening and first birthday picture invitation that I got from the mail just this recent week. Angel ask me to be her daughter's Godmother. which is very trilling to me. I live here in Seattle & she lives in San Francisco( Gladys lives in New Mexico by the way, that's why we haven't meet ). The christening is on the 6th and hopefully I will make it over there. As we all know right now California is on fire. And I just saw the news yesterday , SF is so smoky. My point was I have trouble breathing with the smoke. Hopefully SF will be clear by then. Otherwise We wont be going. I am just going to make it up to her,someway, somewhat.




Anyway. I just want to share this here. I am proud to be asked as a God mother to this such a cute baby girl.

Pleasant Weekend

My weekend went well. Weather was pleasant. It's quite warm actually. Went for a walk late yesterday. waited until it cool down a little bit. Was planning for a long walk, but we spotted a lightening & thunder not far away. It's scary , we didn't want to get hit by 'em of course so we cut our long walk to short one. Otherwise ,it was still a nice walk. Today is a little bit cooler. Which is nice. Can't complain. As far as I know some places, is having a fire, triple digit temperature & flood.

Snoqualmie Falls


Snoqualmie Falls is one of Washington state's most popular scenic attractions. More than 1.5 million visitors come to the Falls every year. Take The Time To Pamper Your self

Everyone needs quality time for themselves. Women, especially, need that time to pamper themselves a little after that busy day. As that old saying goes, men may work from sun to sun, but a woman's work is never done. That saying certainly stands true; a little time set aside for yourself isn't too much to ask. It doesn't matter if it is late evening, nighttime, or early morning. Take the time and the steps to pamper yourself. Remember that you as a whole are what you are stuck with for life. So treat yourself well and like yourself.
Take a foot soak. Use a small pan or tub and fill it with warm water and add baby oil with vitamin E to soak your feet in.
Scrub your feet. Have on hand your favorite foot scrub and scrub your feet after your warm foot soaking. Sea salt works great, too.

Delight in bubbles. Consider taking a full bubble bath, and add a face mask.
Caress your feet with softness. Have some Footsies or socks ready to put on after applying some cream or Vaseline. Cut the toes out of old socks to sleep in to allow the cream to soak in overnight.
Soothe the hands. Take care of your hands the same as you would your face by applying hand lotion or even your face cream, especially at night.
Spritz the face. Keep a small spray bottle filled with spring water to mist your face during the day and at night.
Deep cleanse the face. Using a clay facial mask (such as the avocado, kaolin and rosemary) on your hands works great and leaves hands soft.

Give all the skin a treat. Don't forget to add lotion to the rest of your body and pay attention to the neck area.
Add moisture to your hair. Keep a spray bottle filled with tap water to mist your hair. This works great on fine hair that is layered.

Use scent to lift your mood. Using vanilla or lilac body sprays will add that special touch after a nice shower or bath.
Treat the legs. Don't forget to put cream on your legs - cocoa butter works great.
Jazz up the teeth. Get in the habit of taking care of your teeth, and don't forget to floss.
Eat well. Prepare yourself a generous meal, relax and really taste the food.
Chill down for the night. Rent yourself a good movie, kick your feet up, and relax. Spend a little time at night to yourself.

No matter if you decide to pamper yourself daily or weekly, take the time. Everyone deserves to be pampered sometimes.
There is nothing vain or wrong about thinking of yourself, for we do tend to put ourselves last.
We were pampered as babies, but now that we are grown we have to do it ourselves.
If you run out of your favorite facial scrub, a tiny bit of baking soda mixed with a little water works great.
For exfoliating your skin, there are many great inexpensive soaps out there that have oatmeal and other ingredients in them.
Drink lots of spring water.
Exercise in moderation and eat the same way.

The Honeymoon Period. In the time surrounding a wedding, many couples are engaged in an endless eating-and-drinking bacchanal: the bridal shower; the bachelor and bachelorette parties; the rehearsal dinner; the wedding itself with its appetizers, carving stations, three-course meals, four-tier cake, and open bar; the honeymoon, which is all about decadent overindulgence. And when you're madly in love, who has time to cook? But if you keep up this behavior, pounds will soon follow. Dining at a restaurant more than once a week can increase the risk of obesity.

The Company You Keep. If your friends and family members are obese, the likelihood that you will become overweight as well is rather high. What does that mean for couples? If your spouse is overweight, your obesity risk increases by 37 percent.

Pregnancy.A woman can expect to gain an average of 25 to 40 pounds before giving birth. This weight is important, since much of it is needed to provide nourishment for the baby. Approximately 10 pounds are lost in the birthing process, and additional weight due to fluid retention is shed in the week following the birth. The rest can be lost by good, old-fashioned diet and exercise. The jury is still out on whether breastfeeding helps mothers lose weight; in fact, a 2004 study found that there was no significant difference in weight loss between women who breastfed and those who didn't. And women aren't the only ones to gain weight during pregnancy: Men up their risk of obesity by 4 percent with the birth of each child.

Complacency. It's the biological imperative in action: When you're single, you'll do everything you can to attract the opposite sex. Once you're married, the need to remain slim and attractive can be easily sidelined by other concerns--work, kids, household chores. Some people think when they get married, couple usually think that they didn't have to do any thing because either she/he got him to things for each other.By doing that ;it can be a surefire ticket to weight gain.

Was sick Yesterday

I started my day late yesterday. I started to check my account at PPP and trying to take the Oppps that I reserve when my sight started spinning.I stopped for a little bit and continue but I couldn't. And I started trowing up. I guessing that maybe something I ate for breakfast.Food poisoning or something. But the only food I ate was, has brown and bacon and a half of a Cinnamon bagel with cream cheese. Anyway, I trow up all the food I ate for breakfast and cannot get any food down later on. It was a miserable day. I tried resting and keep some fluid down. I guess that I had a stomach flue. I tell ya, It wasn't' fun. I had felt a little bit better later on that day and decided to go for a short distance walk. But I was still felling sick. I felt better today though. Thank goodness.

Find An Excellent DayCare

As a working parent, choosing who will care for your child when you are at work is one of the most important decisions you will make.

Begin as soon as possible. Many child care centers have long waiting lists, so it is never too early to start looking. If you are pregnant, start looking for child care for after your baby is born.
Determine whether you are eligible for child care subsidies. Often there is a waiting period for these funds, and they are only accepted by certain child care providers. You can find information about child care subsidies at the Administration for Children and Families website at http://www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/ccb/parents/index.htm.
Define your most basic child care needs. How many children need care? How old are they? What hours do you need care? Where should the child care provider be located? When does your child need to start?
Define higher-level needs. What are the most important features of a child care provider? Does your child have special needs, like nutritional concerns or disabilities? Do you want a child care provider that implements an educational curriculum? Do you prefer a larger playground? Do you prefer mixed-age classes or same-age classes? Do you prefer a center that provides meals or do you want to provide all of your child's food? Is it important for a center to be close to your home or work?
Separate your higher-level needs into two lists: absolute necessities and preferences.
Ask friends for recommendations for child care providers.
Search online for child care providers. Most states have searchable lists of providers that give information such as hours of operation, age of children accepted, total number of children allowed in the center, and whether they accept state child care subsidies.
Build a list based on recommendations and online searches.
Call the centers on the list to ask basic questions about the needs you have defined, available space, and the cost of attendance. Take good notes while you are on the phone so that you can keep the information straight.
Decide which centers you would like to visit and make appointments to tour the facilities.
On your tour, meet the child care providers for your child's age group, and if possible, observe the children interacting with each other and with the providers. Bring a list of questions to ask the staff members.
Decide which provider or providers seem to be the best fit for your child, and make a surprise visit. You should check in with a staff member as soon as you arrive and try not to disturb the children or caregivers. Good providers have an open door policy for parents that allows you to observe caregivers without making an appointment or calling ahead.
Select one provider that you believe is the best fit, and make one more visit with your child this time. If possible, make arrangements for you child to play with the other children or sit in on a lesson.
Once your child is officially enrolled, maintain close relationships with the staff. Try to make extra time when you drop-off and pick-up your child to chat with the caregivers and observe your child's interaction with them and the other children.

Go Without Eating For Six Hours


Deal with your hunger, without letting it control you!

Food. If you know that you will have to go without food more six hours or more, be prepared. Eat a large, healthy, high fiber breakfast. Bring a small snack or two, like a granola bar, or string cheese.
Water. Bring at least one bottle of water with you. Before you leave, drink about 4 full glasses of water, or atleast until you can't drink any more. Water makes you feel full.
Thought. Don't think about food! Make sure you're occupied by something else. If you can't go on much longer, don't resist your hunger. Eat your snack, bite by bite, and drink more water. Then stop thinking about it. If you get hungry again, chew on gum. That really helps!
Refill. Afterwards, eat a large meal. Even if you don't feel hunger, your body may be starved of food. Eat plenty of good food, including vegetables. Energy drinks are also good!

* Bring a snack.

Start a New Life With a Negative Past

There is only so much we can do to right the wrongs that we have done in the past but when our reputations and character have been destroyed, by vindictive people who are unwilling to forgive us and move on and finding employment becomes difficult. Then it is time to get the hell out of Dodge and start over with a fresh slate .
After all attempts at reconciliation have failed
When you have a constant bad feeling in the pit of your stomach
When your good name and character have been destroyed beyond repair
When finding employment becomes impossible because of past history or bad references.
When there is a negative or extremely derogatory result to every back ground inquiry or consumer report
When you have exhausted every possible option available
When you are trying your best to stay straight and abide by the law but the Police keep harassing you any way.
When you have by your past actions made multiple enemies who would like nothing better than to overtly or covertly cause you bodily harm, or see some unfortunate and deadly accident befall you.
You get frequent threats against you
Your enemies are calling you and hanging up.
Make a plan and cover every possible aspect over and over again *Find a new state in which to live one where you have family and feel safe * Apply for jobs in that state and continue doing so until you get an interview. * Once you get a job in that state began preparations to move * Tell only those who need to know and make sure that they understand the importance of not telling any one your where abouts better still yet tell only family members that have proven you can trust them. * Transfer any certifications you hold to that state *Get a place to live preferably in a safe neighborhood with a low crime rate. *Transfer all mail there * Transfer phone service there and get your utilities turned on. When all is ready and in order quietly make your move leave in the early morning hours between 1 am - 4 am as most normal people will be in bed and don't look back.

Leave The Past behind

When the nights are long and you cannot sleep for all the sadness of a past left unresolved; when you cannot grasp the future squarely and move on; when the past haunts both your woken hours and your dreams... you are in the grip of anxiety and inertia. There will always come a point at which you must cease to stay stuck in the past or it will define you and mark every step you take from now on.
Prepare to face the challenges. A past left unresolved will continue to haunt you if you don't address the underlying sorrow, pain and anger. You may not want to revisit aspects of what happened in the past but if you don't, you allow the part of your mind that conceals and glosses over hurts to dominate and instead of fully comprehending what happened and learning from it, you live in its grip subconsciously and let it eat away at you. If you cannot take a clear view of the past alone, seek professional therapeutic assistance to guide you.
Accept that you cannot change what happened. What has passed, has passed. It is not possible to rewrite the facts of what you experienced and went through. But it is possible to rewrite the way you perceive it and handle it from now onward. If you don't, your hurt self will carry over this pain into all new experiences and relationships, possibly poisoning them and dooming them to failure without any conscious desire on your behalf.
Let go. Acknowledge that you are living in real time carrying the baggage of old time. And then let go of it. Are you playing out a past habit in a current relationship? Does your fear of anger, loss, raised voices, silence etc. now set the tone for how you relate to others? This requires careful consideration to untwist the tendrils of who you really are and what experiences from childhood onward shaped how you react to situations. Most of us feel a deep inner core of who we are at best and we are capable of separating the triggers from the solid core of self if we sit still long enough to tease apart that which triggers our habitual behavior and that which is truly what we believe ourselves capable of being. Remove the past from your future. This simply means that you must learn to stop letting past experience morph into future probability. This happens when you have a bad experience and it immediately conjures up memories of where similar bad experiences have led you in the past. Instead of thinking positively and remembering the means by which you ultimately overcame these negative challenges, your immediate, habitual reaction is to transfer the bad outcomes from that prior experience and transform it into the worse case scenario for your current experience, with full-blown expectations that tomorrow things will only be worse. And with that comes the habitual actions, on cue rather than a series of chosen reactions defined by you as the person you are now.
Create a positive future. Combine the knowledge that you cannot change the past with the knowledge that you cannot predict the future but you can make sure that the person you are right now is strong, whole and healthy emotionally, so that any future negative scenarios are something the person you are now can definitely cope with, no matter what gets thrown at you. This is really about taking responsibility for yourself and how you react. Once you have faced the challenges from your past and accept that while you cannot change the past, you can cease to let it be roleplayed out every time a new challenge arises, you are beginning to remove the fear of more bad things happening as directed by your past experiences. Instead, you now learn to embrace the reality that the future is as yet unwritten and if you want it to be a positive and strong experience, the power lies within you to achieve this.
Take it slowly but surely. No overnight transformation will occur when you are trying to move yourself through past habits. It all takes time and you will only achieve the best and soundest results by allowing yourself time and space to move on. However, there are some simple and practical things that can help you to leave the past behind and, while largely symbolic, key into the mind-body connection aspect of our humanity and assist with your thinking processes:
Get a large box and throw into it anything that reminds you of a past failed relationship, a dead or missing person, a job that left you feeling sore, anything physical and tangible that hangs around your neck like a noose;
Decide whether this box should be tossed or stored. Either way, you are coming to a conclusion about its contents that they can no longer influence you. If it is a failed relationship or experience, it is often better to toss the box and leave the reminders to memory alone, which will be kinder to you than physical evidence. If it contains mementos of a lost loved one, you may feel more comfortable simply sealing it up and putting it aside, knowing you are doing this as the beginning of a journey forward.
Write down your feelings. You could write a letter to a person or people in the past who hurt you. You could write poetry or prose. Anything that allows you to let out the feelings and no matter how horrid you word things, let it out. You should not be keep this writing - it is simply a way to open up the emotional backlog and let out repressed feelings as best you can.
Revisit places where you felt pain and hurt. Go back and realize the power you have personally to not let that place get to you. This can be an overwhelming experience, however, depending on what happened. For example, survivors of concentration camps or sexual abuse are less likely to ever be able to face a place than someone who had a romantic experience somewhere but since broke up. Gauge for yourself how ready you are to take what may be a giant leap and take a buddy for support if needed.
Avoid rash decisions. While you are going through the healing process to strengthen your ability to deal with the past in a reasoned and distanced manner, keep aware of the triggers that will send you back to past habits. Actively aim to put a hold on habitual reactions and challenge yourself to do things differently, while at the same time accepting why you need to do this. This also means avoiding making decisions in haste that you may regret later, such as cutting off all ties with somebody in your family, or sending notes filled with vitriol to people or quitting from something you have been doing. While ultimately reasoned judgments that may include some of these outcomes might end up being the path you take, initially this exercise is about strengthening yourself to make calm and consequence enlightened decisions rather than making merry with curses and burning your bridges with no care for tomorrow. You do care about tomorrow - a responsible, thoughtful and clear future that is free of being controlled by past habit.

Know the Difference between Soft Law & hard Law ( International)

If you are studying international law, there is a little notion called "soft law" that can sometimes be confusing to understand. Here is how to tell the difference between soft law and hard law in the context of the international legal system.
Learn what the terms "soft law" and "hard law" mean:
Soft law means commitments made by negotiating parties that are legally binding.
Hard law means binding laws. To constitute law, a rule, instrument or decision must be authoritative and prescriptive. In international law, hard law includes treaties or international agreements, as well as customary laws. These instruments result in legally enforceable commitments for countries (states) and other international subjects.
Familiarize yourself with the types of legal instruments that make up "hard law" in the context of the international legal system:
Treaties (also known as conventions or international agreements)
Security Council Resolutions
Customary international rules
Familiarize yourself with the types of instruments that tend to be soft law instruments:
Most UN General Assembly Resolutions and Declarations )
Statements, principles, objectives, declarations of principles
Guidelines, standards
Action plans
Be aware that while soft law is not binding in a legal sense, soft law instruments do carry some authority. Soft law instruments are negotiated in good faith by the negotiating parties who hold some expectation that the non-binding commitments will be met as much as reasonably possible. It is important to note that soft law statements often contain aspirational language that inspires reliance on them to improve policy-making in areas such as the environment, sustainable development and human rights.
Realize that soft law can evolve into hard law. An important role of soft law instruments is their ability to influence the future development of hard law commitments. When analyzing international law soft law instruments, keep in mind how this useful and innovative aspect of soft law can be a bridge between no commitments and legally binding commitments.
It is helpful to refer to Article 38 of the Statute of the International Court of Justice to see which sources of law are considered to form binding international law: treaties, custom and the general principles of international law. Also there are the two subsidiary "sources": judicial decisions and the writings of highly qualified publicists.
The General Assembly resolutions are often mistakenly considered binding. Resolutions that relate to "housekeeping" within the internal organization of the General Assembly are binding on members of the Assembly but other resolutions are not legally binding . What is important is to examine whether or not such resolutions have legal effects arising from the subject matter or from the way they are drafted. Some countries do not agree that any legal interpretations arise out of UN GA resolutions, preferring to view them as political aspirations; other countries, however, find some UN resolutions to be authoritative interpretations of the UN Charter. It is complicated and you should do a lot of research!
While soft law is also creeping into domestic law, this article is only concerned with international law.


Remember that the term "hard law" is only used in contrast to "soft law". Don't walk around calling yourself a "hard law" lawyer. But nobody will mind if you call yourself a hard lawyer... you may not win friends but that is up to you!
Be aware that soft law is contentious for some international legal practitioners who do not like the term "law" being used for non-legally binding commitments. Yet, there are good reasons for it being called soft law, so the term endures. Most importantly, soft law commitments influence the creation of hard law over time and soft law instruments will often fill a policy gap while policy parameters are still being worked through.

Understand Supply and Demand



Many people quote the laws of supply and demand, but few actually understand how it works. Here is a simple step by step method for thinking through the basic laws of economics.

Check your assumptions. The laws of supply and demand are only laws if the good is a commodity like lumber, crude oil or concrete. A commodity is a good that is perceived to be worth the same amount regardless of the supplier.
Pretend that you are a consumer. This is easy because you are a consumer. Let's say that you buy 7 apples a week at a price of fifty cents per apple. If the price of those apples goes up to one dollar per apple, will you buy more or less apples? When the price of a good rises, the demand for that good decreases and when the price falls, the demand for that good increases. This is the law of demand.
Pretend that you are a supplier. This may be more difficult to do. Let's say that you own a farm and you sell apples along with other fruits. One day, you sell your apples at the farmer's market for fifty cents per apple and sell out. The next day you sell your apples for a dollar a piece and you run out of apples again. Now you are making twice as much revenue from apples. Since you know you can sell apples for a dollar a piece, will you bring more or less apples to the market? Will you plant more or less apples next year? When the price of a good rises, the supply for that good increases and when the price of a good falls, the supply for that good decreases. This is the law of supply.
Picture yourself at a market with three apple stands in front of you. Also assume that all of the apples look exactly the same as far as you can tell. Two of the apple stands are selling them for sixty cents an apple and one of the apple stands is selling them for fifty cents an apple. How much will you pay for an apple? Perfect price information and equivalency of goods are some principles of perfect competition.
Picture yourself as the owner of one apple stand. You sell apples for fifty cents a piece and run out of apples. The next day you sell apples for sixty cents a piece and run out of apples. How much will you sell your apples for the next day? Instantaneous price adjustments are another aspect of perfect competition.
Let's assume that at a price of one dollar a piece, suppliers bring 100 apples to the market and consumers are willing to buy 90 apples at that price. There is a of ten apples. The only way to sell these surplus apples is to lower the price or perhaps give them away. Next time you come to the market, you may sell your apples at a discounted price to increase the demand (see law of demand) and eliminate the surplus. Another solution would be to bring less apples to the market next time or plant less apples in the future. Both of these options are called market corrections.
Now let's assume that at a price of ninety cents a piece, suppliers bring 100 apples to the market and consumers are willing to buy 110 apples. There are ten people who want apples and do not have them. This is called a shortage. If the seller wants to make a greater profit, he will bring more apples to the market or sell the apples for a higher price the next day. These options are also called market corrections.
See that the market will correct itself until a point of equilibrium is reached. That is, until there is neither a surplus nor a shortage.
It is often said that, "if there is less supply, the price goes up." This is a misstatement of the law of supply and is more akin to the resulting effect of a shortage. The laws of supply and demand both refer to how price affects the market, not the other way around.
Knowledge of economics will help you understand how the market works, but keep in mind that the laws of supply and demand are very limited.
You will often hear the laws of supply and demand referenced by those who have very limited knowledge of economics. It is not a good idea to get in arguments with them.

If the toilet will not flush then you can not use it. You could line the bowl with a garbage bag and then remove the waste from the home. A 5 gallon bucket lined with a garbage bag makes a good emergency toilet. This method will use up a lot of garbage bags in a short amount of time. Better to dig a hole in the yard and use it for an emergency toilet.
* You may also sprinkle cat litter in the 5 gallon bucket between uses. This will absorb liquid and allow multiple uses of a bag before removal to the outside of the house.

* Throughout the preparatory phase and the storm itself, do not let your love of adventure overwhelm your common sense.
* Use common sense. Don't panic. Be ready to react if the situation changes.


* Battery operated flashlights are fine if the power is out for a short time. The new LED flashlights work well, as long as a spotlight isn't needed. Target and other stores have good ones in the $10 range that drop into a pocket and run on AA and AAA cells. They're great for personal lights, and the batteries last five to ten times as long as with regular incandescent flashlights. Additionally, LED conversion bulbs are available on the Internet for more popular brands of flashlights.
* After a couple of days you will need candles for light. Buy big decorative candles that will burn for days. Keep lanterns/candles in frequently used locations, such as the bathroom counter, next to the door, and on your bedroom nightstand. IF there are gas leaks, explosive chemicals in your area, do NOT use candles, if you do, watch them to prevent fire, especially if children are with you.
* "Self Powered Lights" and "Self Powered Radios". This equipment is either solar powered, and/or has a "crank up" generator built into the light and the radio. Find the lights at the local Wal*Mart, the radios at the local Radio Shack and/or the Internet. This will SAVE you $$$$ on batteries, IF you can find any, since they'll be sold out WEEKS before a storm hits you. Some of these models will also charge cell phones.
* Glow sticks. found in the Wal*Mart and sporting goods dealers. Safer than candles, in case there are gas leaks, explosive,flammable chemicals in your area.
* Solar powered garden lights. You can charge them up in the sun by day and use them indoors for lighting at night.
* Battery-operated radio
* Canned goods and can opener, fruits and vegetables and other foods that do not require refrigeration.
* Water (at least one gallon daily per person with a seven-day supply). You can also fill up bathtubs if you close or seal the drains.
* Bleach. In the event that water enters your home, you will need to get it out and then kill any microbes that remain.
* Take highly-valued items with you or, for those items staying in the home, wrap in plastic or place in plastic bags. Even if you are riding out the storm, consider placing photos, insurance papers and other important papers in sealed bags.
* Corded phone. Even if your electricity is out, your telephone may still work. Cordless phones still require electricity, so plug in a corded phone, and you may be surprised.
* Cell phone and extra charged batteries.
* A DC to AC inverter.
* Pre-moistened towelettes.
* Battery-powered fans will be very appreciated if the power is out.
* Lots of batteries of all sizes (you can always use later what is not used during the storm). Consider buying a car battery to power battery operated devices in the home.

To get the water out of the tank after a storm you will need to open the plumbing system by opening any hot water faucet in the house. This will release the vacuum in the tank. You must turn off the electrical breaker to the hot water tank or unplug it to prevent damage if the electricity is restored before water service.
Purchase a generator. Generally, a generator should be big enough to run your refrigerator, a lamp or two, and any fans. If you absolutely must have air conditioning, be prepared to pay handsomely for a generator that can handle it. Search the web for generator wattage calculators to make sure you don't buy more generator than you need - your wallet will thank you at the gas pump.
Purchase several 5-gallon gas cans. Fuel is usually scarce after a hurricane, and many stations even limit the amount of gas you can purchase after waiting in line. Having multiple cans will allow you to stock up. Buy a bottle of fuel stabilizer for when the power is restored. Mix this with your gas so that it will keep until you are able to use it. Also, fill and run your generator with the mixture for about 10 minutes so that the fuel system does not gum up while in storage. Change the oil and/or filter before you store it, that way it's nice and fresh next season.
If you already have a generator, make sure it is in working order before hurricane season. There is nothing worse than finding out that your generator investment needs repairs after you need to use it.
If you are unable to purchase a generator, buy a DC to AC converter for your car. With it you will use your car as a portable electric generator. They cost $25 to $100 and are available in the automotive section of department stores. If you should lose power to your house, you will be able run a radio, TV, light, refrigerator, or other low wattage appliances from your car. You will need a heavy duty extension cord to run the power into your house.

Perform maintenance on the car you will be evacuating with if it becomes necessary. When's the last time you changed the oil or the filter? Is the battery fully charged? Buy a bicycle, if you don't already own one, so that you will have a backup mode of transportation. After a big storm hits there may not be any gasoline available for days or even weeks. If your neighborhood is destroyed you will be able to go for supplies or even ride out of the area. Make certain that the bike tires are pumped up before a storm hits. Have an inner tube patch kit and an air pump, too.
Watch or listen to the news to learn when a hurricane is approaching. This will help you create a plan of action.
Continue keeping in touch with your friends and family. They will get comfort just knowing where you are, how you are faring, and how close the storm is to you. Be Prepared For Natural Disaster


It is best to put two disaster kits together: one for your car in case a disaster strikes while you are away from the house, and another (supplementary) for the house. The kit for the road should include enough supplies for 2-3 days, and the kit for the house should include enough supplies for 5-7 days.

Find a bag, preferably a backpack (in case your car becomes disabled and you need to walk) to hold all of the supplies.
Consider supplies in the categories of clothing, food, shelter, and safety.
Be prepared to dress in layers so you can add or remove clothing depending on the weather. Be sure to pack long and short sleeve shirts, a pair of shorts, a pair of jeans, good walking shoes and socks, and a wind-breaker rain jacket. Additional items can be added/ removed according to the season and type of potential disaster in your area, such as thermal underwear, sleeveless shirts, or water/canoing shoes (shoes that make it easier to walk in water).
Pack non-perishable items that are easy to eat, such as protein or energy bars, and canned snack-sized fruit. Be sure to pack enough water.
Pack a sleeping bag and tent for shelter, and pack some money for both kits.
Pack a flashlight and a battery-powered radio for safety. Consider purchasing solar or crank rechargable lights and radios, and maybe some glow sticks. Candles should only be used if there is no possibility of gas leaks and always place them where they can be watched so that they do not cause a fire.
Consider buying an LED headlamp. LED lights last a LONG time on batteries, and a headlamp leaves both of your hands free to cook, do dishes, read, or many other things.
For the house kit, pack additional food and water and know what important items you want to take with you if you need to evacuate.
Realize that you can not count on water from your tap, and water can be contaminated, so you need to store enough water for drinking, and additional water for cooking (if you have a camp stove), flushing a commode, and washing.
Have a waterproof, fireproof lock box where you keep all of your important papers. In case of emergency, you can grab the box and go.
Make a list of items that you would grab if you have time to evacuate (photos, family heirlooms). Keep the list with your other disaster kit items.
Include a supply of necessary medications and rotate them to keep them fresh.
Place the kit in an interior closet or basement if you're in a tornado-threatened area, and on a higher level if you are concerned about flooding or earthquakes.
Don't forget your pets, and be sure to have enough food and water for them. (In fact you can prepare kits for your pets to! Be sure to include, a package of food, water, a portable carrying cage, and anything else your pet would need in a safe, accessible place.)
Lastly, don't forget cash. Make sure to have cash in small bills such as ones, fives and tens. This is crucial in case ATM machines are disabled and banks are closed. Also, many convenience stores do not accept large bills.

If you live in an area prone to disasters that cause extended power outages seriously consider keeping a portable generator on hand. The generator should have a capacity of at least 5700-watts - this will power the whole house except central air-conditioning. If you have time to prepare, fill at least six, 5-gallon plastic gas containers with gasoline to power the generator. Gasoline is one of the first commodities to become scarce in an emergency - so plan ahead.
If you have room, consider adding something to heat water to your pack for hot beverages or instant add-water only foods (oatmeal, pasta, rice, etc). Don't forget waterproof matches, a camp stove, a pot, and possibly a can-opener.
Check out camping supply stores near your house or on the web for items and ideas. There are emergency supply kits that have the essentials of high-energy bars and water packs that you can buy that can help remove the guesswork from what to pack.

If candles are used at all, they have to be watched, so that any fire danger can be mitigated, especially if children are present. If you have a generator, be sure it is installed properly. If it is feeding power back into the electrical grid outside of your home it could injure or kill utility workers who are attempting to restore power in your area.
If you are outside during an earthquake, stay away from poles and buildings, and lay flat, covering your head with your hands.
if you use candles, DON'T use them if there are gas leaks, explosive gases in the area, and IF you do, unless there is a gas leak, explosive gases, make sure it is placed SAFELY to AVOID FIRE, and watch them in case there are children around, so they do not get knocked over and start a fire. Get and use "Glow sticks" instead, use candles as a last resort for lighting needs. IF you smell gas, hear any "hissing noises" near you, especially around a gas line, DO NOT USE CANDLES.

Drink More Water Everyday


There are a variety of reasons to drink plenty of water each day. Adequate water intake prevents dehydration, cleans out the body, and promotes healing processes. Substituting water for beverages high in calories can also help control weight. Follow the steps below to make sure you're getting enough of this most basic necessity.

Determine how much water you need. You've probably heard the "8 by 8" rule - drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day (2 qts, 1.8 l) - but the amount of water a person needs varies depending on his or her weight and activity level. Another way to determine your specific recommended water intake is to divide your weight (in pounds) by two. The resulting number is the number of ounces of water you need each day. For example, if you weigh 150 lbs., strive to drink 75 ounces of water daily. For those who use the Metric system, divide your weight (in kilograms) by 30 (ex. somebody weighing 70 kg is going to need 2.3 litres per day). Keep in mind that these recommended intake numbers are controversial and some experts believe they are a gross exaggeration. See "warnings" below for more information.
Measure your daily intake of water. Do this for a few days. If you find that you're drinking less than the recommended quantity, try some of the following tips:
Carry water with you everywhere you go in a bottle or other container. Before long, you'll find yourself reaching for it without a second thought.

    Keep water cold, it tastes better. Keep a pitcher of water in the refrigerator at home. Add ice or freeze water in a sports bottle before taking it with you, it will eventually melt and be cold.

    Buy bottled water of your favorite brand (ie. Fiji, SmartWater, Evian, ect.) and drink it. When you're done with the bottle don't throw it away. Refill it with water at work or at home. When doing this, you trick your mind slightly into thinking that you're still drinking the expensive bottle of water you just bought. This method has been tested for a month and works well. Just make sure to wash the bottle with a baby bottle brush if you can or just buy a new bottle every week or two. Make sure to buy at least 1 to 1.5 liter bottle of water. It is worth it.

    Increasing your water intake may cause you to have to get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. To avoid this, you may want to stop drinking water a few hours before bedtime--or make sure you visit the toilet before bed!

    Destroy Sensitive Documents



    Every month you receive some kind of document with sensitive information on it. This could be a bank statement, credit card statement, pay stub, or a receipt. Throwing these things in the trash is not enough to keep them safe from prying eyes. Your sensitive information must be irreversibly destroyed.

    Determine if the document really needs to be destroyed and if it will be needed again.
    Determine what exactly is private information that you wouldn't want to be seen. More than likely you want to keep the document for your records, so it isn't always necessary to destroy the entire thing.
    Using a simple hole punch, cut out the sensitive areas into pieces of confetti. Half-moon shapes are best. If the confetti is all circles you didn't use enough punches.
    If any information you wish to destroy takes up a large area (requiring a lot of hole punches) or is not easily accessible with the hole punch, cut out the area using an Exacto Knife. Leave a little extra blank area on at least one side.
    Once the information is cut out simply burn away the offending piece of paper.
    Burning the paper with other pieces of scrap paper mixed in will mean that if by accident a part is not burnt the remains of the scrap paper mixed in will help confuse anyone who tries to read it.
    Find somewhere with a minimal amount of flammable material and little or no wind. Hold the pieces with a pair of pliers or some other tool so you don't have to hold it with your bare hands. This is also important since placing burning paper in a tray or pan doesn't provide proper airflow and most likely won't completely burn. Hold it by the extra blank area, because whatever part is pinched won't get burned.
    Once it is finished burning drop it in water (which will ensure it doesn't catch anything else on fire) or blow on it (assuming you don't mind bits of ash everywhere).

    Traditional shredders (that cut paper into strips) won't keep someone from putting it back together.
    If you frequently destroy sensitive documents, consider investing in a cross-cut shredder. They're more expensive, but they will save you time.
    Though time consuming, an eraser will rub off ink, usually by rubbing off the paper.
    When burning, paper ventilation is important, not only to avoid smoke inhalation but to ensure a full and proper burn.
    Most offices have paper shredders or record destruction services. Check with your office manager and see if you can bring in your own documents for destruction.
    As far as burning the pieces of paper, try using a cast-iron bathtub. Make sure that there is nothing in the bottom, such as plastic foot grips. This way, if it does somehow manage to get out of control, you have the tub with a ready supply of water.

    If using an Exacto Knife, be aware that the surface below the paper will be scratched. Not to mention Exacto Knifes are extremely sharp.

    Catalogs can sure stack up. It seems like everyone has a product and everyone is eager to get the word out about it. How do you gain the upper hand on this stream of literature?

    Eliminate any catalogs that you don't need.
    Toss the older copies of any duplicates.
    Throw out anything that's irrelevant to your business. If you know your business buys its electronics and computers complete, you may never need to order a single resistor. If you don't have a factory floor to maintain, you don't need a floor sealant for it.
    Discard any sales literature that has more shine than content. You can't order anything from that glossy brochure that says what a great company they are, so don't keep it.
    Work with the purchasing department and anybody who specifies material for purchase (engineering, management, etc.) to establish an approved vendor list. These are companies or vendors that are central to your business. If you already have a purchasing database or even a stack of old purchase requisitions, look back through it. Vendors that your firm uses rarely or never and any vendors that have caused difficulties (late delivery, excessive fees) should go on the list only if they supply something you need but can't get elsewhere.
    As you order from each vendor again, make a point to add contact details to your database.
    Use your approved vendor list to cull the collection further. If you think you need to keep a catalog, ask whether the company who sent it belongs on the list.
    Date the catalogs you plan to keep and make a note on them (perhaps inside the front cover) if you use them.
    Periodically clean out the collection, removing anything that has not been used in a long time and anything that is so out of date as to be incorrect.

      Get fresh copies of catalogs you use frequently. Simply mention it to the salesperson the next time you talk to him or her.

      Use the web. Many websites have up-to-the-minute information about product offerings and even prices, no paper involved.
