Cholesterol: The Good and bad

Managing cholesterol is one of the keys to a healthy heart. But because they are different types pf cholesterol, it can be hard to keep track of which one is good for you and which one are not.
Here is some basic imformation that help you keep it straight.

HDL vs LDL

You may know that cholesterol is fat-like substance that travel through blood. But did you know it can't make the trip alone? That's because blood and cholesterol-like water and oil- don't mix. To get through bloodstream, cholesterol combines with protien and form " packages" know as lipoprotiens.

The Different types of lipoprotien are:
* High-density lipoprotien (HDL), which considered "good" and protective because it carries cholesterol away from blood vessels
* Low-desity lipoprotien (LDL) , which considered " bad" because it contain large amount of cholesterol and is responsible for build up and blockages in the arteries.

Another substance to be aware of is triglycerides, the form in which most body fat is stored. High level of triglycerides in the blood , along with the other risk factor, may increase your risk of heart disease as well as lead to weight gain.
